Vietnam e-visa for US citizens

The Vietnamese e-Visa is an electronic visa which allows US citizens to travel to Vietnam for tourism and various other purposes. The e-Visa permits one entry for a maximum stay of 30 days.

The entire online application for US citizens is straightforward and quick to complete. You only need to answer some basic questions and pay a fee online using a debit or credit card. After you have sent in the e-Visa application form, it should only take approximately 3 business days to process, although on rare occasions, it can take longer. Therefore, the best thing to do is to apply for it at least 7 business days beforehand. This will guarantee that you get your e-visa on time and you won’t have to worry about any complications or delays. The visa is then sent to you by email and travelers should print a copy of the visa.

What’s so good about this type of e-visa is that you can fill in the application from anywhere in the world. What’s better, the entire process only takes a few minutes to complete. Applicants are only required to enter a range of basic data such as passport information and certain personal details.

The data that is provided during the application is screened using security databases. To minimize the risk of delays, complications, or in worst case rejections, be sure that you answer all the questions 100% accurately. Even the smallest errors may cause problems.

People with dual citizenships (2 or more passports) cannot use one of their passports to apply for the Vietnam e-Visa for Americans, and another to enter Vietnam. You must always use the same passport for the application and when crossing the border.

Travelers can choose between a 30-day and 90-day visa or even a 1-year multiple entry visa (the visa will be valid for 1 year with the maximum stay of 90 days per entry) which is good for people who intend to stay for a longer period of time.

However, the Visa on Arrival is only available at the 5 main airports in Vietnam and in order to get visa on arrival, you have to apply online for the visa approval letter first, then you will have to queue at visa desk at the airport, which can take a long time.
